INTRO TO FASHION: In this class, our final project wass to create a garment using thrifted pieces of our choosing. We had to make it look nothing like what it was when we purchased the item, and I chose to base it on 70s and 80s rock stars and how they have influenced society and culture today. Challenging politics, gender norms, and stereotypes through fashion and music influenced society to advocate for change.
REDEFINING IDENTITY
THE PROCESS
Below are some research pages I designed that revolved around the influence of artists during this time. In the first pages, I wanted to emphasize the feeling of escapism, combining space with the feeling these artists felt and incorporated into their music. I was drawn to the idea of showing a psychological escape without boundaries.
THRIFTED PIECES
Here are the garments in their original form:
GARMENT CONSTRUCTION
After draping with the pieces, I decided to go with this design. From there I developed a mood and visual board, found props, and scouted for a model and photographer to take these images!
EMPHASIZING FLUIDITY IN GENDER, MUSIC, SOCIETY, AND CULTURE.
